I hate these damn deers

kryollakryolla Member Posts: 785
I was driving home Sat morning around 2 am when a deer decided to cross the highway. I had it in cruise control minding my own business when all of a sudden my wife screams deer and not dear, next thing I saw was this deer in the air after I hit it. A piece of the rubber gasket from the hood was flapping in the wind and my wife thought it was the deer leg so I stopped. Looked at the damage it did to the front and smoke was coming out and coolant was leaking. The whole front end got pushed in almost to the engine. This is a 2007 lexus we are talking about. Now I have to pay my deductible and my insurance is going to go up. I wonder if I should trade it in after it gets fixed. I will post pics after I get it uploaded. Thanks for listening.

Thank you for doing your part to help with deer overpopulation ;)

We get them all around this area since development has gone up into the hills, which is their natural habitat. My roommate calls them "giant rats", since they scurry around on the roads and used to eat all the bushes outside his house. Still, it's always a little nerve-racking when you have a close-call, and a little gut-wrenching when one actually does kiss your grill.

Good thing it was bambi and not her mom that CRX is so small but fun car to zip around in.

Yeah it's hunting season here and you always see dead deer on the side of the road. Its just a PIA to get the car fixed and it will never drive the same.

Those things kill vehicles, it is rare to hear someone not do a lot of damage to their car when it happens. When I was 11 or 12 a deer literally fell from the sky right in front of us (she was jumping from the shoulder and landed in the road) ripped the whole front end off the car. I will say you were lucky it didn't fly up and into your windshield.

I bicycled to work this morning with it raining heavily and cold, also had my tire go flat due to driving over broken bottles in the road. icon_sad.gif

I ran OVER one in a 96 escort a few years ago. Some one else knocked it cold - it was laying in the middle of the highway in the dark. I was going about 70 and didn't see it until it was too late. Almost lost control of the car....

Forget about the car. Can you imagine how bad of shape you'd be in if that thing went through the windshield? You got in an accident and walked away uninjured, be thankful.

When i was in 11th grade in high school i was driving to a band concert and hit 2 deer at the same time in my '90 eclipse. 1 flew up into the windshield, didn't go through it but smashed it up pretty good.

I pulled most the dents out myself and replaced the windshield, was never the same but ya, they messed my car up good

I too am a Bambi killer, but really these are deer suicides, right?

I was lucky a few years ago, the deer wasn't. I swerved and just clipped him. He broke his neck and died and my car just got a teeny tiny dent.

A few close calls. I used to work at a remote site. These days I don't see too many deer on the D.C Capital Beltway.

    Ouch. IS250 or 350?

I almost hit one in my Infiniti G37. Thank god for sport suspension! icon_twisted.gif

I needed an AWD for the snow so I got a 250. The adjuster came out and the damage is a little under 6k minus my deductible. I talked to my insurance and because it was not my fault my insurance is not going to go up. The auto body shop came by today to tow my car so hopefully it wont take too long. I didn't bother stopping after I hit the deer, I was more in interested in what happened to my car and how am I going to make it home. I was talking to my wife and she pointed out this Nov and the past 2 Nov we had gotten into an accident. Nov 06 a lady pulled out in front of me and totaled my car. The following Nov my wife hit a slick patch on the road and slammed into the guard rail and this Nov a deer hit me.

I always thought that it would be nice to live a country where I can see deers or kangaroos by the side of the road while driving .. like I see in the movies ..

After reading this I think I will stay here, the largest thing you can hit is a small dog or a cat.

damn. It's a crime to see an IS in such bad shape (gonna be my next car). GL, hopefully it won't end up costing you too much after everything is said and done.

Wow bad lucj dude. Here in Upstate New York you can find Derr running around my town. Right down main street some nights.
Some mornings I even have Wild Turkey on my front lawn. I live right IN TOWN on one of the main streets.
A few weeks moths ago we were warned that something called a "Silverback" was eating cats in the neighborhood.
Up north of us sometime Moose come down this far from Canada!

Sorry about the Car. At least no humans died. I hit one once in my 86 Cavalier Wagon. It broke my front left signal but that was it. I was lucky.

Hoope the insurance replaces your car.
