question for those that have taken both 270 and 290.

Is 290 tougher, easier, or about the same regarding the level of difficulty of the test. I know there are less questions for 290 but that's not an indicator that it's easier. Thanks

It's "easier" for a lot of people because it's usually their second MS test, (after 70-270,) so they don't have the same stumbling-blocks of seeing those huge paragraphs of reading for the first time and they are used to the wording and layout of the exams. As for topics, 70-290 is the inverse of 70-270, covering primarily Windows Server 2003 and XP topics from the viewpoint of the server-end, as opposed to 70-270's primary viewpoint of being a helpdesk support technician and working from the workstation-end.

Basically, if you're strong with server concepts and Windows Server 2003 features, you'll find this exam easier. Since you've already taken one MS exam, you won't be running into the same surprises in terms of the types of questions you'll be seeing as well as the sheer difficulty, so you're practically a veteran. :D

I took 70-270 after 70-290, and I thought 70-290 was a much easier test, but I'm also much more of a server guy than desktop.

I also did 290 first, and I feel the same way. 290 was more logical for me while 270 felt more abstract. Like you said, it probably just boils down to experience. If I had done a lot of XP deployment work, I might have a different opinion.
