Question regarding Upgrade exams

Hektik1nHektik1n Member Posts: 21 ■□□□□□□□□□
If i upgrade my MCSE 2003 to MCITP:EA taking the 70-649 (Upgrade) Will this give me 1 cert ? or will this give me the following certs ?

MCTS: Windows Server 2008 Active Directory Configuration
and
MCTS: Windows Server 2008 Network Infrastructure Configuration
and
MCTS: Windows Server 2008 Applications Infrastructure Configuration

When i look at my transcript from Microsoft, will it only have the one single 70-649 or will it have the 3 individual MCTS certs ?

Also what books / videos are you guys using to study for the 70-649 ?

It looks like you'll get: TS: Upgrading Your MCSE on Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008

    http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/exams/70-649.mspx

    Get this book: http://www.amazon.com/Real-MCTS-MCITP-Exam-70-649/dp/1597492345/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1226153084&sr=8-1

Ignore the bad reviews. If you read the, they're mostly complaining that the book is too long and detailed for an "upgrade" book. I'd rather have it have too much information than too little. I can always just skim the familiar material.

Dynamik, he actually does get all those MCTS certs by passing that one exam.

"When you pass this exam, you complete the requirements for the following certifications.
    • Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS): Windows Server 2008 Active Directory Configuration
    • Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS): Windows Server 2008 Network Infrastructure Configuration
    • Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS): Windows Server 2008 Application Platform Configuration "

I'm using the Syngress book, but only because when I began studying months ago, it was the only book available, but then I got sidetracked by learning PowerShell (DARN YOU, ROYAL!!!! :D). It does seem a bit lean.

I'm also using Transcenders, as I always do.
    Good luck to all!

I interpreted that as meaning that passing this exam will satisfy those requirements wherever they're called out, such as with the MCITP:SA and EA. Do they actually show up individually on your transcript?

    Yes, this is my question.

Once i complete my 70-649 will this give me that one certification, but show 3 other individual MCTS on my transcript. Or will it just show the one 70-649 as an upgrade exam MCITP without the 3 corresponding certifications that go along with the upgrade.

Also, is it worth upgrading the MCSA 2003 to MCITP: Server admin ? Is there a specific order to take the upgrade tests. Should one upgrade their MCSA 2003 to the MCITP:SA then upgrade the MCSE 2003 to MCITP:EA ?

I've heard that if you can pass the EA, you can pass the SA with little to no problem. So that becomes more of a "look at me mom, I've got all my certs, do I get a cookie?" vs saving money. Personally, I'd rather get my cookie.

I passed my 70-649 exam. On my transcript i got one extra line:
TS: Upgrading Your MCSE on Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008, Technology Specialist

Although it did not break down the actual cert numbers that i passed. For example,

    70-640
    70-642
    70-643

Is that how its supposed to show on your transcript ? I thought it would show up under the Microsoft Certification Status... Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist... My 70-620 TS windows vista shows up by itself. I also have a specific logo that has MCTS Windows Vista. I thougth by passing this exam one would get the following above exam numbers TS ? So, i also take it i wont be getting any more cert papers to hang up ? Am I missing something ?

I can't say for sure, but it may take a day or so for the "Credential" part of your transcript to update. My final MCSE test (297) showed up on the lower part of my transcript a day before MCSE was added to my credentials. So if you've just passed the test, maybe wait a day or two to see if they pop up.

(Or someone that has already passed 70-649 could check their transcript for you.)
