best way to back up outlook to local machine

What is the best way to do this?

I have been reading and some methods state that attachments will be lost using certain methods.

basically I want to create a folder on my local machine and move e-mails to it after so many weeks/months...

Use a Personal Folder and set up auto-archive. Then I would still back up the Personal Folder (.pst) on a regular basis as well.
