Vista install 25gig

Hi

this may sound like a noob question but its to do with VISTA so, fancy that

I have the business upgrade version so i have to install it twice, you know the trick, 1st time leave code blank, then soon as u log in run setup again from inside VISTA, funny how they made it possible to do that

anyway, my install is 25 gig, and i cant account for at least 20 of it, asuming VISTA is 3 gig, and 1 of my app installs is 1 gig

if i right click on the C drive folders they dont add up to 25gig


this may be obvious but VISTA is hard work for me, i cant even run any MS updates cos it hangs on re-boot

    I don't quite get what it is that you're asking. What makes you think your install is 25 GB in size? Are you seeing 25GB of your HD in use via disk management?

    Vista does require up to about 15-20GB of space for installation, but most of that is temporary space that's "released" after installation.

    Are you displaying hidden files and folders when you're looking at sizes? My page file is larger than what you were able to find.

    Put on something like Treesize and use it to tell you exactly what's taking up the extra space. If it can't then run a full checkdisk as the MFT might be screwy.
    We responded to the Year 2000 issue with "Y2K" solutions...isn't this the kind of thinking that got us into trouble in the first place?

    My Windows dir is 20.6GB, and I'm on SP1.

    Bah I don't bother reading those - I was referring to real life.

    I am well aware that 15-20GB is required, but after the OS is installed, it's around 7, I'm sure of it.

    If I had time, I'd install a fresh copy into a VM to prove i'm not going mad:D

    12GB for my Vista SP1 but around 6.5 of that is the WinSxS stuff.

    1. Hibernation Files
    2. Pagefile
    3. Restore Points
    4. Windows Updates

    and more importantly :

    5. Install Files (for example no DVD needed when adding new features).

    Biggest folder are probably

    C:\Windows\winsxs
    C:\Windows\system32\Driverstore

    My work desktop is actually topping out at just over 10 gigs for a Vista Enterprise install at SP1. I don't have my laptop set up so I can't currently check that out.
