TravR1 Member Posts: 332I'm another fortunate one... the law says we have to stay in business and continue providing our service to disabled people - according to the disabilities act. We are funded by the FCC. I'm going to ride the storm out here.
Personally, I would ask for a raise, over a bonus. But that's just my thinking.Austin Community College, certificate of completion: C++ Programming.

TravR1 Member Posts: 332However we are sort of putting a freeze on raises right now. Since Washington and all of it's great wisdom is going to be taxing businesses more. There is not a lot of money moving around right now.

luckybob Member Posts: 65 ■■□□□□□□□□I also work for the government, and was worried about my evaluation this year being affected by the economy. Luckily I was wrong, got an 8% raise on top of a possible promotion as soon as I finish my MCSE and CCNA.
I was looking to get certified to find a better job, but since I have a guaranteed job, unless I really mess up, I figured I would wait out the economy crisis right where I am for now. -
nel Member Posts: 2,859 ■□□□□□□□□□You could go to your manager and seek it out. They can only say no. I Guess you have to be realistic in how much your asking though. Otherwise if they say no and money is an issue to you then you would have to move on really.
However to be honest i think in the current state of affairs you will be lucky to get one - seems most are lucky to have jobs. Did you not ask about this before you achieved your ccnp? From my experiance many employers wont entertain this unless its agreed in principal before hand.Xbox Live: Bring It On

u think ur job is immune cuz u got a gov't job, huh? think again pal. the us postal service just announced that they are laying off 40,000 workers nationwide...all gov't job. where do u think our gov't is getting money from? taxpayers like us! what do u think where they will get their money when everyone is employed? u got a lot to learn youngling.
and last i checked...wall street is the only place that give out bonus...i work in the gov't sector before, and its the last place i would expect bonuses. u would be lucky if u get a 5% raise each year. that's y i move into the private sector...it's where all the $$$ is at. the only time i want to go back to gov't sector job is when i get older...i heard depending on what agency u work...u can retire after 20 yrs of service. that is the only pluses if u work for the gov't long enuff. -

Stigmatas Member Posts: 26 ■□□□□□□□□□When the next evaluation comes around you should ask for your next GS not STEP increase.
Pick what you think your worth. Make sure your managers know that you HAVE your NP. Show them the cert. Make it known. Let them decide on what to do with you.
If not apply for another government job with a higher GS.Network+ > ICND1 > ICND2 > ?

oops typo...but i won't mind retiring in my 40's or 50's after 20 yrs of service with the gov't and then do some consultant work on the side. and then collect my social security once i hit 67 for max benefit.
