So just add them under my degrees or create a heading for Certifications before Relevant coursework?"No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man." -Heraclitus -
networker050184 Mod Posts: 11,962 ModI'd just make the section education and certification. I'd also combine the relevant coursework with the skills section. I'm not a big fan of having a lot of different sections on the resume. I like a layout that is as simple as possible. An expert is a man who has made all the mistakes which can be made.

Aldur Member Posts: 1,460I would recommend putting your certs as the very first thing on your resume. I've been told by recruiters that they see my IE cert, stop reading the resume and call."Bribe is such an ugly word. I prefer extortion. The X makes it sound cool."

I see it both ways for the kind of job you are apply for but in general if you have good experience then it would be the first thing you should put on your resume (after summary if you want one). It is the most important part of your resume as experience trumps all.
I could see if you have a huge cert then you would put it first... But if I just have an MCSE and CCNA... I want the recruiters to read my great experience, then the MCSE and CCNA would back the experience up.
This is of course my opinion only. -

Good point indeed. Put what is most impressive first, if your work experience is the most impressive thing then put that first. In my case I have crap for work exp, 1 1/2 years in IT so putting my certs first work well for me."Bribe is such an ugly word. I prefer extortion. The X makes it sound cool."

BradleyHU Member Posts: 918 ■■■■□□□□□□i think that education & certifications should be seperate from each other...
also, you're experience should be right after your summary...but if you want to put certifications there, then i guess thats not so bad either...Link Me

I don't think a single certification especially the CCENT (no offense) deserves its own category on a resume. Now if you had a laundry list like some people then maybe it would be a good idea.An expert is a man who has made all the mistakes which can be made. -
famosbrown Member Posts: 637I have a section called I.T. Professional Certifications. I list them there. Of course this section is removed when I'm going for a more business type position outside of I.T. My college education is always at the top...cert section is last on my resume.B.S.B.A. (Management Information Systems)

Better yet, start vertically on the left hand side and then continue around the edge of the paper, top, right side, bottom, and then left side again. If your able to connect your last cert with the first cert you win!"Bribe is such an ugly word. I prefer extortion. The X makes it sound cool."

CaptainCharisma Member Posts: 36 ■■□□□□□□□□I would put certifications in its own category underneath education. I would also combine the coursework and skills areas just as Networker said.
As far as the discussion as to put certifications before or after work experience, I'd say it depends. If you have a lot of experience in the position your applying for you want to tailor your resume to show that first. If you have some big certifications you may want to list those first, because you may at least get an interview. Its all about keeping the HR person's attention to keep reading your resume.
Another example (one that I'm considering following in a few months when I go to look for a job), is if the only IT experience you have pretains to servers and desktops, but you want to focus your career on the networking side and you have certifications relevant to networking, then you might want to show your certifications first. Posting your server/desktop experience first before your networking certification(s), probably won't help you get the type of job you want, in fact to some it may look like you prefer the server/desktop side. What good does posting your experience first do if it doesn't pretain to the type of job you want. -
