Password problems
Hello fellow techs, I have a question.... I have been the assistant computer tech at my high school but recently the main computer specialists tech left so now im in charge of everything and im still a student at the school lol funny huh... well my question might sound or be a bit dumb but i hope someone could help me out. There's one of the AP's who's computer has a password that I cant figure out and the funny thing is that the tech that put the password on that machine left a long time ago... so it wasn't the guy i worked with it wa another tech that put it... now I have several password cracking cd's but the problem is that he put the password on the bios so when i try boot up from disk drive it will not read the cd.... is there another way to crack the password? All the computers are on the school network so we always use certain passwords and so far no luck.... none of them work... hope somone could help out. Thanks.

Darian929 Member Posts: 197Hello guys... I tried the removal of the bios battery and had it off for about 30 mins... when I put it back on no luck... the bios password was still there.... i guess my last resort is wipe out the hard drive and reinstall the machine anyways I know you guys know a lot so I've always wanted to ask this since you have experience. Since I am in charge of my whole school now as the computer tech.... Im only 18 so there are many things about networks I dont know. I have my computer in my office which I can look at the Active Directory of all the computers in my school. What I would love to do is find a way that I could remotely log in to whichever machine I need to to install programs... or fix any problems the teacher might have. I would like to do this because I waste to much time walking through the entire school to fix something practically stupid or install something when I know i would be able to do it from a computer as the administrator. So my question is .... are there any programs out there good for that or any ways where I can stay at my computer and log in into a teachers computer and fix whatever needs to be fixed. I know about remote desktop... but Not all the computers at my school have it enabled and neither do I know all the IP's of each machine in the rooms. Well hopefully you guys can give me a hand. Thanks in advance.

JDMurray Admin Posts: 13,089 AdminThere's usually a jumper on the motherboard that is shorted to clear the BIOS password. You'll need the motherboard's manual to get the specific details.
