My 1801 boots to ROMMON only and I can't reload IOS onto the compact flash. Says something like bad flash.
Either the flash is duff or the router/flash interface, is it common for flash to fail like this?
Do you have to format them for the router to use?

You should format the CF card in the router so it has MONLIB on it. There are also some cards which Cisco routers just don't like for some reason so try another one.
