May be of interest to anyone going or planning a SQL2008 course in the near(ish) future. MS offer for anyone taking one of their SQL2008 instructor lead courses - a free copy of SQL2008 standard (1 CAL license) between 10th December 2008 and 30th June 2009.

Gutted, I just did the 3-day SQL2005 to SQL2008 upgrade course which pre-dates the offer icon_evil.gif

Thanks for the info. A shame its not enterprise, would like to get some practice setting up mirrored databases - since enterprise is the edition we're going to have. Poop.

To be fair, for a mirror you only need the standard edition anyway ... Standard simply supports Single-Thread mirroring only which is a problem when it comes to large / huge amount of transactions but to be honest, if you just want to get practise in mirroring the Standard Edition will do ....

Brad, have you looked at getting a Technet download subscription? They're $349/year ($249/year to renew), and you get access to all MS products with no limitations.

No. It's not up to me, I work for a local government icon_rolleyes.gif

How can that be though? Licensing is so expensive, how can they give you something like that for relatively no cost? Surely I wouldnt be able to download like 5 copies of SQL 2008 enterprise and run our business from that for the next 15 years.

Do you have a link Dynamik?

I've done it with Standard Edition on a single machine...but I would like to go ahead and set up what will become the live mirrors on Enterprise edition.

Well, you can only use it for testing/evaluation (I thought that was what you were after; I apologize if I was mistaken): http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/ms788692.aspx

AND it is just a single user license ... Funny enough, when I wanted to buy Vista Ultimate - Technet was cheaper :P
