*PASSED* 8th Dec 08 - Second Time - 840

Well I went in after 4 Months Studing and 2 Weeks before my test doing pracice exams. First time I scored 689, on monday I scored 840.

I took the Tests at National IT Center in Newark, Nottinghamshire UK.

I did my first exam about 2 months ago, I never been so worried, couldnt belive it when I passed. One thing I did in my second exam was to write A B C D on the suppied paper and cross of what it deffently wasnt and kept tract on how many questions I defently got right at the end of the exam I knew I deffently got 16 right and 14 not so sure, but for these exams you need 21 right to pass.

I used MCSA/MCSE Self-Paced Training Kit (Exam 70-290): Managing and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Environment, Second Edition. It was really easy to read and explained it self very well.

Ive just bought Self-Paced Training Kit (70-291)

Lets hope next time I pass first time.

Sorry, but it's too late to back out now since you already bought the 70-291 book. It's coming to get you....

Nah, just study extra hard on DNS and DHCP. That's like 1/2 of the test right there. Then throw in some RRAS, Network Monitoring Tools, a little subnetting and you'll be slaying the beast in no time.

good luck dude, try tour best..

if your not sure on the answers write down A B C D on the paper and cross out the answers you know arnt right.

and remember if you edit any groups make sure you set it to a security group. (little hint, i nearly missed that, on one of the sims)

Thanks for the tip about editing groups! I was preparing for that when taking the test today and sure enough, it was on one of the sims. A group was marked as a distribution group and I had to change it.

Yeah, I think you could do it by the end of January. Just make sure you feel confident and study hard. As was already mentioned, DNS/DHCP/RRAS/Subnetting. Seemed to be the majority of my test anyways.

this is deep water, i play with servers every day, dont really touch network stuff.. maybe end of feb 2018 lol

Well done fella on passing the 290.

If you read the MS training kit from cover to cover and get to grips with IP addressing, DNS DHCP and RRAS you should have no dramas passing 291 in Jan.

Also don't forget about WSUS, GPOs and Network monitor, they also appear in 291.

We can make a deal. I'll take your 291 and other networking exams for you and you can take my exams on active directory????? Seems like a good deal to me. I'm studying for the 290 and feel pretty confidfent so far since there does seem to be a lot of overlap between 270, which i've taken, and 290, which I'm taking now, and it's only been about 2 weeks since 270 so it's still fresh in my head. I think with another week of studying up on backups, permissions(I'm very weak on permissions), and users/groups I'll be ready to go.

The 291 book is very informative, but is VERY dry!
