Simulations on the Exam

gravyjoegravyjoe Member Posts: 260
I am scheduled to take the 290 exam tomorrow. I'm a little concerned about the simulations though. I have practiced a lot on my 2003 Server, but I don't want to get caught off guard too much. Basically, I'm wondering what subjects do a lot of the sims test you on. I picture Microsoft giving sims on creating users/OU's/groups, managing all of those, and backups but I don't know. I'm not asking for exact sims off of the exam, because that would be cheating. I just want to have an idea of what the sims are like, what they will test you on. Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks pyroflames. Fortunately, I feel that I know those subjects well, but I will still practice until test day. Are there any backup sims on the exam?

I assume there are a wide variety of SIMs on the exam and we have all experienced different ones. Many on here wont want to give too much away on what each individual SIM questions are like, all I'll say is that they have the potential to gain you those extra marks as you can really play around in the environment so if you are not completely sure on the answer you can look around the menus, make changes and hit the 'reset' button if you want to answer it differently. I think the SIMs are often really good questions, and they certainly test your knowledge as you cant guess the answer in the same way you do with multiple choice.

I'd definitely advise practising answering the question so you are clear that you know the answer, then hitting 'reset' and answering it again, but cleanly so you know you havent clicked on anything wrong. I know i sometimes click through menus to make sure I havent missed anything and I dont want that detracting from my score -- it probably doesnt but doesnt hurt to make sure your answer is clean.

Good luck, and dont worry too much about the SIMs. If you know the basics you'll find your way around, and the questions seem clear enough about what they want you to do.

Thanks Ladyfox. The responses that I've received so far make it seem that the sims are very straightforward. I've played around with Server 2003 a lot, so hopefully it'll be a breeze.

With the 290, I would worry more about what you are going to be getting out of the exam then passing it. :) Lots of good topics if you aren't familiar with Windows 2003.

Server 2003 is interesting, I'll admit that. Studying for the 290 is much easier to me than studying for the 270. Playing around with Server 2003 is fun. I feel confident that i will pass the test tomorrow.
