Oracle Exams

Anyone out there doing any of the Oracle exams? My boss has asked me to learn 11G since I have finished the latest Microsoft exam 70-648. I still need 2 exams for the MCITP EA, they are 70-647 and 70-620, but they can wait since he is going to pay for all my study material and the Oracle exams. I have not found many exam forums for Oracle. Please share any links you might have. I am not looking for **** or anything like that.

Thanks
Aaron

I studied Intro: SQL and PL/SQL for a college course a few years ago, but never ended up taking it because I decided I hate database work, so getting a certification in it would probably send me into my own spiral of hell.

Aside from that rant, the exam appeared to be pretty lax on the amount and level of topics covered back then.

Are you going for the associate?

Yes, I am going to start with the Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I 1Z0-051 exam then the Oracle Database 11g: Administration I 1Z0-052 exam. That will get me the OCA. Then I can go back to the Microsoft stuff. I will need to upgrade my MCITP Database Administrator to 2008 sometime as well.

Aaron, the Oracle Press books are pretty good from my experience, but not enough in my opinion. I like the Apress lineup better for learning the basics. This is just from when I went through the 10g OCA and OCP. The hands on courses through Oracle are very good, but expensive, and unfortunately, one is required to move from OCA to OCP.

After almost year of reading I had taken the exams and did not pass. The Oracle Press books are not enough to pass the exams. My boss is sending me to the Admin 1 class, but not untill the second quarter. I think the hands on training will help with getting a better understanding of the Oracle ways.

Let us know what you think and how you do on the retake. I plan on starting down the oracle track some time this year.

I took the Oracle SQL exam almost 2 years ago. I didn't feel it was anything more than basic SQL.

Thanks, eMes. Did you take the 1Z0-052 (or whatever it was back then) as well? If so, what did you think about it?

Based on your comment, I'm going to throw the 1Z0-051 exam in before I start down the MCITP: DB Developer path this summer. Should be a good review before I hit more serious topics.
