Well I defiantly have an old machine I could be putting a NAS on. I was looking at FreeNAS earlier. I just like the idea of the small form factor with a RAID. Stick it anywhere there is a network connection and I'm good to go. I've set up the Buffalo's and I know you can hack them to put NIX on it. But really I'm not that bored. haha!
I just commandeered my old bosses Mac Mini at work at I am in LOVE. I hate gushing about Apple products.
It's like meeting that cute uppity b*tch at the gym that you so don't want to get involved with, but just can't help yourself. -

Has Microsoft yanked this or something? Every page they had up on it is no longer valid. -
pwjohnston Member Posts: 441I just use plain RHEL.
Software's not the issue here. I'm looking for hardware that is small form factor and can handle at least a raid 1 mirror. If I can straight install linux on it I probably will. However I'm assuming that whatever OS runs on the boxes isn't going to have enough storage space in their ram to hold a bigger os. And I don't want to put any new OS on the data drives. -
marco71 Member Posts: 152 ■■■□□□□□□□I use gnu/linux with mdadm and I think software is a major issue since hardware goes cheaper and cheaper and you can find inexpensive sata drives for, let's say, a raid5 array...
btw, anyone heard about DRBD (http://www.drbd.org) or is using it as a raid1 over tcp/ip ? -
