Well I've been doing some solid studying and scheduled the exam for next Thursday at 1 pm. Little information for those who are going the self-study route, when they send you the ID number you put it in the voucher section if your using Vue. I thought I had to enter it in the beginning and had to go back and forth with Vue in e-mail. Finally, did a chat with them and was told it was a voucher that had to be entered (had a Homer moment). I was approved for self-study through educational experience (thread is here on that: http://www.techexams.net/forums/ec-council-ceh-chfi/38422-put-ceh-waiver.html ). Used/using the following materials:
CEH Exam Prep 312-50 by Michael Greg - Completed
CEH CBT Nuggets - Completed (bought the 1 month streaming account)
Career Academy - Incomplete (found this to be crap so I'm not continuing it, gave it back to my friend)
Official Certified Ethical Hacker Review Guide by Kimberly Graves - Starting today
Anti-Hacker Toolkit - Reviewing for tools
Boson ExamSim - $50 Bucks, will use on Monday

Hopefully, will have a passed on here next week (if I don't have to push it back due to getting a job!)

Tomorrow I'm going to see the IT Director to sign off for me. I've only been here seven months but worked three years as Technology Director for a small public school district when I was fresh out of college.Working On:

the_Grinch Member Posts: 4,165 ■■■■■■■■■■I am thinking of switching my exam date to Tuesday. I have a second interview for a security position that will involve some pen-testing and I believe this could help me. Interview is on Wednesday, will finish the official guide tonight then it is a matter of doing questions to prepare to the basic knowledge. Then review some tools! I'll know on Sunday if that is what I am going to do...WIP:

the_Grinch Member Posts: 4,165 ■■■■■■■■■■Well the worse case scenario occurred. Need a 70% to pass and I got a 69%! I'll say that I probably should have taken another week or two to really look at all the stuff required (which is what I will be doing now). But I will also say that there were quite a few questions that weren't covered in any of the material that I used. But oh well, second attempt in a couple of weeks...WIP:

What sort of material caught you off guard (if you can say without violating the NDA)? -
the_Grinch Member Posts: 4,165 ■■■■■■■■■■Off hand I'm not a 100% sure that I could say what the material is so I'll stay mum on that...but if/when you take it you'll see what I am talking about.WIP:

You were really close, though! You can knock it out with another attempt, for sure. -
the_Grinch Member Posts: 4,165 ■■■■■■■■■■Yeah, now at the very least I now have an idea of what I need to do and what is expected. I will say I didn't expect the depth some of the questions went into...WIP:

the_Grinch Member Posts: 4,165 ■■■■■■■■■■Thanks! I ordered a couple other books to get myself fully prepared for the exam and after.
Amazon.com: Nmap Network Scanning: The Official Nmap Project Guide to Network Discovery and Security Scanning: Gordon Fyodor Lyon: Books
Amazon.com: Gray Hat Hacking, Second Edition: Shon Harris, Allen Harper, Chris Eagle, Jonathan Ness: Books
Amazon.com: The CEH Prep Guide: The Comprehensive Guide to Certified Ethical Hacking: Ronald L. Krutz, Russell Dean Vines: Books
So hopefully with these and a job I'll be able to kick this exams butt and continue my trip into the rabbit hole of computer/network security...WIP:

darkerosxx Banned Posts: 1,343I flipped through Kevin Mitnick's two books and they look really interesting and educational. If you haven't checked those out, you might want to when you get a chance. While it's not full of information for the CEH, it did have some gems that I recognized were on the exam.
