Restoring from command line?

I want to restore the Windows 2000 system state backup from the command line. The only thing I can find is the GUI driven backup program, but what if I can't boot the OS? I found how to backup and remote backup by creating a system share, using NTBackup, but is there a way to restore the entire system state from a command line? Any help would be appreciated, thanks a lot.

Ntbackup cannot be used to restore files from the command-line. Unless you can find a third-party tool that can, I don't think it is possible with builtin windows tools. The 'MS way' to restore a system that cannot boot to its OS, is to use ASR.

Then if you create a backup with NTBackup, how do you restore it?

By performing a clean installation, start it, and run Windows Backup to restore it. I'm sorry, I should not have mentioned ASR as it is not available in Windows 2000 (only XP and 2003). I worked in companies with over a hundred Windows servers and only in very rare circumstances NTbackup was used to create backups. More often a third-party solution (seagate, CA arcserve, veritas backup exec) was used to allow easy recovery of an entire system. Although I'm sure ntbackup/Windows Backup has become more popular since ASR (Automated System Recovery) was introduced.
