Hello everybody,
I'm in need of some career advice that only my friends @ techexams could provide. I'm a network engineer and would like to add some scripting/programming skills to make myself more valuable. But I'm not sure which language to pick-up that would be useful.
Any recommendations??Greatly appreciated

I'd start with Powershell for Windows and Python for *nix. -
undomiel Member Posts: 2,818I'll second PowerShell for Windows. For Linux I'll be a bit different though and say learn shell scripting and Ruby. I really enjoy Ruby over Python.Jumping on the IT blogging band wagon -- http://www.jefferyland.com/

Why do you like it better? Have you tried the new v3 of Python? It's very different in some respects. -
undomiel Member Posts: 2,818Biggest reason? It's pretty simple. Ruby feels more like C++ than Python does. Plus I hate the indenting of Python. It can make for some irritating troubleshooting. Haven't tried the new Python though so if it feels more like C++ then maybe I'll be flighty and jump ship over.Jumping on the IT blogging band wagon -- http://www.jefferyland.com/

You will see that much more often than python on unix/linux systems. However I am sure that will change in time....encrypt the encryption, never mind my brain hurts.
