T1's and T3's

I've read that a channel is a wire. So with that in mind. T1's have 24 channels. Does that mean there are 24 wires bundled together in 1 cable? As well as 672 wires for the 672 channels that make a T3?

hypnotoad Banned Posts: 915No, a DS0 channel is not equal to a wire. T1's run on 4 wires and use Time Division Multiplexing to give each of the 24 channels a slot.
I'm not a telecom expert though -
sides14 Member Posts: 113A T1 is comprised of 24 DS0s (channels) and a DS3 is comprised of 28 DS1s (with each DS1 having 24 DS0s). A T1 can either be in a standard 4-wire configuration or a 2-wire HDSL configuration.
