70-649 failed :S

Well I failed 70-649 today. Break down came back with 880 on 70-643, 887 on 70-642 and 525 on 70-640

The break down for the modules was about 20 questions each on 643 and 642 and only 9 q's on 640.

I'd been using the Syngress upgrade book and it's really lacking in the basics for ADFS, ADRMS & ADRODC. A lot of time spent concentrating on installing roles (10 pages that all read accept defaults and click next...) but not enough on actual monitoring and maintaining of the systems.

I've picked up the official MS Press Training Kit for 640 to bolster me up on that, and I'll try and have another go next week.

Great scores on the other sections though! It sucks that they have that one section with a small amount of questions. It made me a bit nervous. Good luck on your retake!

Failing an exam does suck, but at least with Second Shot there isn't a blow to your wallet - just your ego.

Great scores on the other sections! I found the Application Integration section the most difficult, but I know of others who found the small number of questions on the AD section challenging as well.

If you get a chance, pick up a copy of the Server 2008 AD Resource Kit. The last 4 chapters cover AD LDS, ADCS, ADRMS and ADFS with more than enough depth to pass that section of the exam. In fact you could probably pass just by reading those chapters, but I would include Ch 15 on Disaster Recovery just to be safe.

Don't worry, you got 2 out of 3... I think MS Press book will fill out what you've been missing, cause I used it to prepare for 70-640 and I was quite satisfied with it, a lot more than with their 70-643 for example. Besides the basics, it focuses mostly on the new things in WS2008 (and changes from 2003), so CS/FS/RMS/RoDC and that's what you need.

70-640 : 820
70-642 : 925
70-643 : 880

So it's a pass second time around

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for their encouragement, it's great having such a supportive community around.

The MS Press 70-640 book was excellent btw, well worth a look for anyone doing either the upgrade or 640 on its own.

Interesting to note that with Server 2008 Microsoft seems to only concentrate on Roles rather than Features. I was expecting to see something on windows server backup since it had changed so much but there was nothing on it at all.

Sure is, I'd already begun reading the 647 book while I was finishing off the 649 so I;m planning on getting fully into it this weekend
