hey all, just wanted to let you know that I'm taking the ICND1 at 1:00 today and wanted to say that I appreciate everyone here on the boards and the help they've given me. I've got subnetting down cold and have been scoring in the high 90's on my boson practice tests so it's now or never. I think the only think I'll struggle with is the sims, but I have a process memorized in my head so hopefully that helps. I'll let you guys know how it goes!

Passed with a 910! My thanks to everyone on the site for their help and best wishes. Here are my thoughts on the exam, most of them have been repeated time and again on this site.

    1. Take the time to write your block sizes and powers of 2 tables while you're doing the exam tutorial. It will help you move through the test much quicker.

    2. Eliminate the incorrect answers first, especially in the multiple answer questions. Many times you can eliminate 2 of the 5 possible answers and the question will want 3!

    3. Know the objectives! This was the first certification I've taken that hasn't tried to surprise me with anything. Everything that I needed to know was apparent on the objectives.

I must say I'm very pleased with the Cisco exam. They really make sure you know the how and not just the why, if that makes sense. On a lot of CompTIA exams, I've taken two, you're really not put to the "real world" test. The feeling that you've passed after you see the score is tremendously gratifying because you know that you know the stuff.

As for what I used to study. Wendell Odom is definitely the way to go. I used his certification guide and Boson NetSim/PacketTracer. I read the book, then went back and made about 15-20 flashcards per chapter. I then practiced all the commands on the simulator until I could do them in my sleep. For subnetting, I would actually look to this site or maybe Lammle's book.

As for what's next? ICND 2 in about three months. I plan on buying hardware for the next one as a natural progression. Ping me if you need anything!

I used Lammle's subnetting process. If you can master it, it's the best process to use. I also made sure to write my block sizes and powers of 2 down while the tutorial was going on. There's a really good post on here, can't remember which one, that explained subnetting REALLY well. I recommend searching these forums for subnetting help as well.

Then it's time to practice until they do :)
I remember I was working on subnettingquestions.com at the time when it all clicked into place. It's a great sensation.
