Need to learn about ASA firewalls fast, which book should I use?

Hey everyone,

I need to find a good condense, concise book that would give me an overview of ASA firewalls, and take me through the basic configurations. I saw a book on amazon that seemed good by Greg Abelar. Is this a decent book? Do you know a better one?

+1, The 'Cisco ASA All-In-One....' is a decent book but I found the 'ASA,PIX and FWSM...' to be much more detailed, especially for the modular policy framework.

'Securing your business...' is all ASDM (GUI) focused if I remember rightly, so while it would help if you just want some basic familiarity it doesn't go into enough of the low level stuff imho.

Would you recommend reading books like these before really trying to get into the ASA specifically??

It depends what your current experience is and your goal, if it's certification then the Handbook is a bit more than you need for a first read. Network Security Fundamentals is pretty good, then the official cert. guides and then the Handbook. For VPNs I still think the best overall one out there is Richard Deal's "Complete Cisco VPN Configuration Guide", it does cover VPNs on the PIX/ASA aswell.
