Practice Tests necessary?

in CCNA & CCENT
I want to schedule my ICND1 exam ASAP but I'm not sure if I'm ready or not. I haven't taken any practice exams because I can't afford to buy any of them. Is it important to use practice exams to get you ready for the real test? I don't understand how people can justify spending $100+ on practice tests when you can take the real thing for the same price.

Yes practice tests are important, but you don't need to shell out a ton of dough. If you have Odom's ICND book it comes with 161 practice questions.
The reason the practice tests are important is because they show you what you don't know well enough.
The idea isn't to get upset when you get a question wrong, but figure out WHY and go relearn the part you didn't know.

Well I don't have that book, any other cheap resources for practice questions? -

Then how about you tell us what you don't know. Seriously, you came in here asking for help and these guys have offered a few solutions and I'm sensing a little attitude. My input, I''ve only done practice tests that come with the books I buy. I read the books, spend time in labs and go back to refresh my mind when I've forgotten something.

Whoa whoa whoa, you took my posts all wrong. I have no attitude at all. I do appreciate all the replies, I've just been over subnetting (especially from subnetting questions . com) and I feel very comfortable about subnetting. It's just that there is a ton of material in the books I've read and the videos I've watched (CBT Nuggets and Train Signal) and I'm just trying to get a sense of the other types of questions I will see. -

If you could only read 1 book for the exam, then the Odom book is THE ONE book to read -- unless you have lots of experience already and just want to review, then Todd's Sybex book might be enough.

Practice questions are great, but don't focus on them too much.
Focus on meeting the criteria instead.
Not only will this ensure you pass, it will make you a better engineer
Once you know your stufff, you should be able to look at a couple of questions and EASILY answer them.
If you can't do that, you aren't ready IMHO -

Um.... then what have you used and how much experience do you have?

I can not recommend the Odom book more. It is the best resource for passing the exam, especially because of the fact that you can get the book for $40 or so and you get the practice exam engine for free.
I definitely think you should take practice tests, as it affirms what you know and points out which objectives you don't know. Plus, the exams that come with Odom's book are much harder than the questions you'll see on the exam.
