Simulator

Hi All,

I booked my exam(CCENT) for next Friday,got CBT Nuggets covered.I have 2 weeks now to get my hands on the router and switch IOS and labs.I got myself familiarities with IOS and commands stuff with 2900 switch.

Now I want to get the simulator so that i can answer the simulator questions in the examas well as can get some experience.I dont want to buy the routers/Switches as i am in the middle of moving out of country so it will add weight of luggage. Would you please advice which simulator is best to buy, ofcourse i dont want to spend a big money on it as i am planning to buy the routers/switch in few months.

I've never heard of that. I'd check out Cisco's own PacketTracer.

Of course there is no substitute for actual equipment, but I have used worse. For the price, stay clear away from Boson's simulator. Although I have never used this one from Pearson, the desciption sounds promising. What I find attractive is that it solely concentrates on CCENT topics, rather than the whole CCNA. And a pretty good price to.

How about Dynamips for basic CCENT stuff? It's free and you can use an actual IOS to practice commands. I have been using it with no problems... Everyone seems to agree that real equipment is the best, but to get your feet wet for CCENT, Dynamips is pretty great.

Thanks all for the comments,I got the Cisco packet tracker installed and it looks pretty good.

I'm going to go with LarryDaMan and advise you to use Dynamips instead of a so-so simulator. If you're not comfortable with the command-line interface, go for GNS3, which is Dynamips/Dynagen with a GUI. There are some great tutorials on how to set things up and get some really good labs up and running on Blindhog.net.

I bought the CCENT 640-822 Network SimulatorCCENT 640-822 Network Simulator, you get the ICND2 portion for free when It's released. I like it better than Packet Tracer 4. I can't find Packet Tracer 5.1.

The labs were very basic, which I guess should be expected for CCENT. There are a LOT more labs listed under ICND2. They just don't work yet, not until June. Packet tracer was always asking me to setup a bunch of PC's ip address and stuff, then the Cisco gear. The CCENT 640-822 Network Simulator just skips straight to the Cisco gear and doesn't make you mess around setting up PC's.
