QoS on switches

Hi,

I am looking to purchase a 2950t with the intention of using QoS. I want to classify and mark the traffic on the access switchports, and apply a priority queuing method on the uplink port.

Reading the documentation shows that the 2950 only supports WRR with 4 queues, and one of those queues can be used as a priority queue.

My question: is CBWFQ and LLQ only available on cisco routers, not switches?

Thanks

I'm not sure if those features are only supported on routers, they may be supported on higher end switch product lines, like a 3550 or 3750. The 2950 QoS feature set is not great. If you do get a 2950 make sure you get an EI model so you can gain some of the class-map features that you can't do on the SI model.

congestion management methods on 2950s are limited to WRR Scheduling. 4 queues, with the additon of enabling queue 4 as a priority queue.

Even then you have to make sure you get the Enhanced Image enabled 2950, you cannot buy a standard image 2950 and expect to upgrade to EI as they are hardware dependant!!!.

I'm not even sure that 3550's support CBWFQ\LLQ etc(I'm certain it's only WRR and possibly SRR)... 3560's and 3750's I'm sure they do but I'll test that tonight....

The class-based actions you can perform on switches are typically policing, shaping and marking.

    Hope this helps....
