HWIC vs WIC

I understand that HWICs are more advanced, newer, and support more WAN connectivity methods (DOCSIS, 3G, etc). But I have a couple questions.
1. Is there anyway to make them work on older routers (e.g., 3640) perhaps with a module that has them built in?
2. Are WIC cards compatible in HWIC slots?

Check Cisco site for compatability for wics/hwics for your router. It's a gold mine of information.Kam.
