Hi,

I don't have much real world experience with Cisco, mostly academic experience. I find myself using 'sh run' more often than any other show command. Is this bad practice? Are there any show commands that I should be using before sh run? What are your favorite/most useful show commands?

I personally use sh ip int br (show ip interface brief) the most.

Most used:


show cdp neigh (and also with "det" added)
show ip int br | excl ass ...excludes the unassigned entries..makes it easy to read IMO
show run
show ip route

Lately thats all I use. At work it's not worth going back to exec mode then global conf mode every time i need to see something.

I think it isn't a bad practice, aslong as you know the original at an cisco exam
