You would be surprised. I know several people that are at the top of their game at work, make every dead line on time, and perform above and beyond. An hour after work and they are already getting drunk. Wake up a little hung over, work, and do it again.

People always associate addicts with the worst mental picture they have of someone with that addiction. While in reality you are surrounded by addicts that are perfectly able to perform in life. Unfortunately it is still horrible for their health.

I don't drink nearly enough to actually be an alcoholic, but I know plenty of functioning ones that work, go to school, and even get certs. It's still a problem, it just doesn't show as obviously to the rest of the world.
