just have a quick question, once you insert the module, and use hyper-terminal to get into the router, shouldn't the router recognize the new module or will it take a few mins. my 2621xm gets to a certain point and then just sits there. i let it sit there for 10 mins and nothing. bad module? this module is swappable with the 3640 also. got the same indication on the 3640 as well. tks
My Lab equip:

I always get mine lined up and pushed all the way back -- and then smack the handle with the palm of my hand to fully seat the card. Then it screws in easily.
If it's a used card, it's possible someone tried to hot-swap it on a non hot-swap router or didn't have it seated right but cranked down the screws anyway...:mike: Cisco Certifications -- Collect the Entire Set! -

It should be detected straight away. Post a log anyway. -

tiersten Member Posts: 4,505As mikej412 said, check that it is actually seated properly. If it isn't in properly then it can behave oddly like crashing or not getting detected. It may just be a dead NM though if you've tried it in your 3640 and still had no luck.

This is where it just “hangs”…….nothing else will happen, I see activity on the router, but that’s about it. now if i remove the module, the router does not hangMy Lab equip:

mikej412 Member Posts: 10,086 ■■■■■■■■■■Sounding more and more like a bad Network Module.
If other Network Modules work in the same slots you're trying, it may be time to write it off and move on. I'd rather have one bad Network Module than 2 routers with bad Network Module slots.
If you want closure -- the final test would be to try another known working NM-4A/S (if you have one) in the same slot and see if it works. If you don't have a 2nd NM-4A/S, then your next "cheapest" NM you have would be your best bet to try (in case the slot is frying the NMs ).:mike: Cisco Certifications -- Collect the Entire Set! -

Talic Member Posts: 423Out of curiosity, is there a reason your not going for the 8 port rather then three 4 port modules? The price for a 8 port is just under $80.
