Swap file question

Is it better to let the OS manage the swap file or is it better to set it at a high level?

For example:
If recommended size for swap file is 500MB and you could comfortably set it to this value as well as a much higher value, would it be better to set it at a high value (1GB for example) or would it be better to let the OS manage it for you?

As long as you have room on your hard drive its fine to set the swap file at a higher level...especially when you have programs open that require more RAM. On my 2000 machine I have the initial size at 1.5X my RAM and the max size at 3.0X. Hope this helps
