Im playing with snort for a uni module im studying at the moment.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any programs that can create a connection between two hosts using particular ports which i can define at will?

I thought netcat was only Linux\Unix.....never heard of it being used in Windows unless there is some sort of add in\installer for it...

From a few sites i read there were ports but the links are dead. I notice there is a windows port of socat which is based on netcat.

Edit: looks like this is a windows port: http://joncraton.org/media/files/nc111nt.zip

netcat was ported to Windows many years ago. Cryptcat also has a Windows port: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=11983
