Preparing for CCNA

Hi everyone,

I am in process of studing CCNA. My question is whether I need actual routers \ switches or I can use GNS3 (7200)? Because lots of ppl here in forum have actual routers and they are practicing on them.

Is only sybex ccna 6th edition is good for studing or anything else is recommended?

Please advice.

Thanks.

For the routers you could use GNS3, but you are going to want to get some real switches (preferably 2950s) because they are not emulated in Dynamips.

As far as study material I would highly recommend the Official Exam Certifications Guides from Cisco Press. The CBT Nuggets are also highly recommended by most people.

    Switches arn't emulated in Dynamips.

I personally prefer having the real hardware and physically setting up my lab instead of just "emulating" it. That's only my preference though.

If you can afford to buy a lab I would look at the 2600 series routers capable of running SDM on eBay and the 2950 switches with an enhanced image. You can actually get a pretty good deal on the stuff if you shop around.

I recommend using real equipment (Router & Switch), and about material I prefer (Official Exam Certifications Guides, by Wendell Odom) because it is go deep and let you to understand the basic very well.
