Bloody hell, it takes ages to install vmware server 1.0.6
Anyway :
So this is def. a problem with your media then. This is the same vmware server and it clearly works.
If you are 100% sure it is not your media anyway, maybe try to create a new virtual machine as I had something like this happen ages ago when I booted up a new vm without any media in the drive (or a wrong media) and it refused to boot from a CD. BUT: Setting the boot order should still work which you said you tried.
So all the "evidence" shows clearly a problem with the disk.
Hey thanks for going through all the trouble of installing 1.0.6 and the vm. Surely points at a problem with the disk. But why the hell then is the disk able to work on an actual machine...I have no freakin idea.
I have asked my VCP colleague to lend me his copy of workstation 6 and I'll probably take it from there. I am spending (and you guys too) far more time trying to fix this, than studying for the test.
On a side note, blargoe, I tried installing vmware version 2 on a W2K3 machine, but the installation failed and gave me a software restriction policy error. WTF? Anything else installs without a problem. There are absolutely no restrictions that I know of.

Thought I should update, there was something wrong with the iso as you guys said. Got a colleague to lend me his copy of the iso and it booted up fine. On track for the 622 exam on the 7th (company requirement to do it by the 8th). Thanks folks.
O and might as well add that I am in for the 71-680 on the 18th of May. Hope all deserving members at TE get in too.
