Quick Permission question...

Well two questions...

1) In order to rename a file, which permissions need to be allowed?
I've been trying to deny creating files, but when I deny it, I can't rename that file either...

2) Can you set a file to modify, but deny deleting that file?

This is for an exam in one of my classes, and I'm not sure if these are trick questions...

1) You would need either Modify or Full Control permissions to rename the file.

I think 1 is a trick question. As far as I know, NTFS considers (from a security standpoint, not an actual disk operations standpoint) renaming to be deleting then creating with a new name.

You can set a user to be able to modify but not delete a file. However, they can open the file and delete all the contents of it, which is considered a modify operation. (They just can't modify the filename.)

I would tend to agree...but Paperclip brings up a good point about how renaming is seen from a security standpoint. Hrm. Now I'm confused!!
