The new Server+ credentials look a lot better than the old Server+ exam.

    Just sat this beta.

It wasnt very difficult, IMO. I'd be extremely surprised if i didnt pass.

Out of 130 questions im pretty positive i got 120 correct. So/so on about 7 and i was clueless on about 3.

The test proctor did let me know that according to recently updated prometric procedure, she had cleaned my area with disinfectant to ensure i would not contract swine flu. icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

How were the questions? Were they well written, clear and concise or like the some of the current exams which are vague and confusing? did it take you the full 90 minutes? I'm taking the test in 2 weeks so i'm curious and i'm sure some other people on the forum would ask the same questions.
    Good luck.

    Good luck.

Keep in mind that i've never taken a CompTIA exam before today.

The questions were about 40% 2-3 sentence long scenarios. Nothing like a Microsoft style question but showed some depth.

Another 40% were very short, terse questions that were straight to the point.

The last 20% varied in length and were pretty ambiguous. Some questions had, i felt, 2 or 3 correct answers each. There were some that FELT ambigious until i carefully reread the question and make note of every word and their connotation.

I just took mine today... I have to say that I agree with this assessment. I wrote really quickly about it on my site.

Just go down all the topics on the objectives list and look everything up on the Internet. I'm putting together a blog article with links to pages to use for studying the objective topics, and so far it looks like Wikipedia is the best single site for Server+ information.

Did anyone that got the first email NOT get their voucher code after confirming your test center and that you can take it by the cutoff date?

If you really have an MCSA, A+ and Network+ i dont see how you cant pass this beta.

It felt extremely easy to me, and although I could be totally wrong and perhaps failed it miserably, it just didnt feel that way.

The questions were good for a beginners cert, but after a year or two working directly with servers a candidate should have 0 problem with this test.

I think the CompTIA assessment of relevant experience is dead on. They target experience levels equivalent to that of someone working with servers for 18-24 months.

As JDMurray mentioned, go down the objectives and search online... I skimmed the objectives and found a couple things that I was either unfamiliar with or knew very little about... I just ended up looking those objectives up on Wikipedia.

I took the exam today. It was fairly easy. A lot of stuff I knew from hands on in the field type of stuff. The rest was common sense as a sys. admin. A lot of basic questions, a few of them were someone odd questioned. Very short questions.

Some basic things to study: RAID, Different interfaces (PCI-X, PCIe, SAN, NAS, etc.), network protocols, best practices, virtualization... A little bit of everything, not very in depth at all (which is what it is targeted at, I guess). My best advice: look at the objectives and study what you don't know. All in all, an entry level exam. If you have any experience with servers, you should be able to do a quick study and pass this thing.

I am sure I will pass. I left a lot of comments on the questions to help out CompTIA as well. Good luck to those that haven't taken it yet!

Exam deadline: May 29 or the first 400 people to take the exam, whichever comes first

So if 400 people take the exam, the beta just ends, regardless of whether you've gotten a voucher and registered? Is everyone rushing to take the exam ASAP?

No results until Q4 either, ouch! I don't have the patience for that...

Apparently, CompTIA's standards are much, much lower than I thought. I just got my reply from Sharon Tierny saying they've got my Pearson VUE voucher on order. icon_lol.gif

    Yeah, they are.

I will continue to think that as well, even though I got jumped the last time i said it on these forums.

Not trying to devalue the cert, but any kind of PC hardware enthusiast is going to know more than A+ will ever teach you within a couple-three months of tinkering. And just about anything in Network+ you will pick up as you work with different operating systems and their interconnecvity.

CompTIA certs are good to get started. Thats about it, though.

Actually, I was being sarcastic. As you said, CompTIA exams are a great way to get started in the industry, and recommend you have somewhere between 3 - 6 months of professional experience before attempting, (meaning you should have plenty of theoretical knowledge before that, or you wouldn't have gotten the job). The reason I'm taking the Server+ exam is because it never did get updated back when I wanted to take it in the first place, and I was worried that it was going away for good. Now that the beta is out, I feel as if though it's worth the effort to read up on some server technologies I haven't used, learn some new things, and sit the exam to see how I do.
