70-640 & 70-642 vs. 70-648 for MCITP: Server Admin

Hi,

I know that most of these tests are new but I am trying to determine which study materials to buy. I know that most of the "upgrade exams" are typically a complete pain and that doing the two tests are just easier to tackle from a studying perspective & a test difficulty perspective.

I was just wondering what your thoughts are with regards to this topic. Has anyone tried the 648 exam? How was it? Same for 640 / 642.

Thank you!

Do you have the MCSA 2003 (it's not listed in your cert list)? If not, I don't believe you can upgrade from 2k to 2008 directly. If you do have it, MS Press just released a book last month to prepare you for the upgrade exam: Amazon.com: MCTS Self-Paced Training Kit (Exams 70-648 & 70-649): Transitioning Your MCSA/MCSE to Windows Server® 2008: Orin Thomas, Ian McLean: Books
    CERTS: VCDX #110 / VCAP-DCA #500 (v5 & 4) / VCAP-DCD #10(v5 & 4) / VCP 5 & 4 / EMCISA / MCSE 2003 / MCTS: Vista / CCNA / CCENT / Security+ / Network+ / Project+ / CIW Database Design Specialist, Professional, Associate

I'm in the middle of getting it right now. If all goes well, I hope to sit for the 290 in < 30 days. I am going thru Transcender and the MS Press Self Paced Study guide.

Ideally, I would like to do 290 by the 2nd week of May so I can use the 2nd shot if necessary.

If I pass 290 the first time, I'd like to get 291 by the 2nd or 3rd week in June so I have time to use the 2nd shot against the 291 test before June 30th.

I'm also trying to figure out do I do 290 & 291 and then the 2008 test only to go back to 293 & 294 to complete the MCSE or to keep on just with the 2008 stuff.

Working on my strategy right now so any and all help and advice is most welcome! I just know that every upgrade exam they've offered has always been such a pain.

    =)

    Have a great day!
