Assigning extension to ephone

When setting up ephone-dns and ephones, is there a better way to assign the extension number you want that ephone to be than using the "button 1x 2:yy 3:zz" command inside of the ephone config?

You can setup the telephony-service to auto assign directory numbers; it's much cleaner to do it manually though.
