    I'll post a pic when I get mine, if Ten9t6 doesn't.

I just emailed them and gave them my personal information and told them why I thought I qualified to take the exam. I really hope they are turning some people down and not just allowing anyone to take this. Not to discourage you guys from taking it, but they are distributing tools that could be pretty dangerous. Granted, you could get them all online, but they make the information available in one spot.

Here it is....If the link fails, that means that too many people have been looking at the pic. It's free, so they only allow so much traffic. If it does...just try again later....My other site is down right now.

Awesome looking card. Then again, why need a card when you can just shoot the bad guys? icon_lol.gif

wow, that little bitty sticker is what you got? things have changed. i got the cert, the disc, and a window sticker (i.e., clear vinyl printed in reverse) that is HUGE - i don't know, maybe 6" by 2' or so. it's funny the looks i get in the car....

congrats on passing the test!! for me, getting the welcome kit took just over six weeks and it came certified mail from singapore. so when you get some odd note in your mailbox that you have some certified mail from overseas, it's probably that.

congrats again, good job. let us know what you do with/because of it.

For those of you pursuing this currently, please be advised that in March, EC-Council will be releasing version 4 of this certification.

Version 4 adds two new modules and removes one old one.

A new module, 'Penetration Testing Methodologies' will be added. Also, the module 'Novell Hacking' will be removed and replaced with 'Physical Security'.

IMHO, Novell Hacking should have been kept, as physical security is the most "common sense", aspect of the entire certifications. Just wanted to bring this to everyone's attention. I know nothing more about this, so if you have additional questions, you'll need to contact EC-Council directly.

Hi guys. I just passed this exam Friday (the 14th). Luckily my instructor was Jack Koziol also. He wrote the shellcoders handbook, and he also wrote the book Snort. I also found out that he lives really really close to me (we're both in Chicago), so we're going out to hang out this coming weekend. We talked about me helping him on some pen tests and getting some real down and dirty hands on experience in the real world. To those taking the test, I can say it was a lot more difficult than I thought. We had a class of 13 very smart guys, 3 failed, and most people said they made around 75%. So make sure you know your tools, and know what they're used for.

How long did it take you to study for this exam?

Sorry for the late reply. It took me around 4 months, but I was working full time from August-September when I started studying, then started back to school in September.

Thanks Ten9t6. Some of the wording and the some of those virus question seemed to come out of the blue. :)

By the way I passed Security+ this weekend, and to me it was definantly easier than CEH.

    Anyone currently studying for this?
  • feline78feline78 Member Posts: 8 ■□□□□□□□□□
I am currently studying for the ceh exam (v3), i had mailed ec council to find out how much time do i have before they update the exams. in response, they informed me that ceh v4 will be released in april 2004 and a candidate can sit for the ceh v3 exam till oct 2004.
i hope this helps all the other people preparing for the exam. i plan to give it by the first week of march. any last minute advice be appreciated.
thanks a lot usr, ten9t6 and the others to post ur views on the exam...

Here's some advice, know the the commonly used recon tools. You will surely have questions like nmap -sV will give what results. Also make sure you know the most common DoS attacks and DDoS attacks by name, what they do and how they work. Not just "A DoS attack floods a computer with requests blah blah blah, you need to know some details, such as what types of packets they use, how they are transmitted etc....

    Good luck.

Finally got my welcome kit in the mail today. It's alright I guess. The actual certification is a bit...colorful. icon_wink.gif

    hi usr/,

i am using the ceh official course books. i have begun to read the hacking exposed book and i have the learnkey hacking revealed videos but i do not find them very useful.
is there any other books/white papers that you found especially helpful for the exam apart from the official guide?

its time for you to get the cert framed now.. hope its adds jazz to the decor" :D
  • /usr/usr Member Posts: 1,768 ■■■□□□□□□□
You're using the official course material which you ordered from http://www.eccouncil.org, and Hacking Exposed 4?

What do you mean they aren't helpful? Do you mean you can't understand what they're trying to teach, or what?
  • feline78feline78 Member Posts: 8 ■□□□□□□□□□
i am sorry, i guess i worded it wrong. i meant the learnkey videos only of the whole lot is not useful. the courseware and the hacking revealed books are awesome. as per your advice i am tackling the quiz that is there on the ceh cd.
i also just noticed the links jdmurray posted for ceh.. extremely helpful

i shall update ya all as soon as the exam is done.. thanks a lot and keep posting

I passed my exam on the 16th of January and got the cert the first week of March. It came from Singapore. I guess it has to sit in customs for a bit.

Umm...I checked the mail yesterday and I received a second CEH welcome kit. Complete with another cert, cd, sticker, everything.

Oh well, one is hanging up and I'll stick the other one in a binder. Now I have two copies of the cd/card as well! ;)
