Heh...apparently it was sent from Germany as well. The printing is also a little different.

Is the study kit recommended by anyone here?

I commented in the other thread, but I'll expand.

Unless you have a background in the material covered by the exam, the study kit is (IMO) essential and should be the bulk of your study material.

Apparently CBT is developing a set of CEH videos, due out in November.

Have you seen any reviews for the Certified Ethical Hacker Self-paced CBT Training Boot Camp by Career Academy?

You might want to read this:

    http://mile2.com/certified_ethical_hacker_training_v3.html

and the reviews of that book on Amazon before you buy it. I was researching CEH for a possible future cert when I came across this information.

So this Mile2 training organization has become dissatisfied with its affiliation with the EC-Council, and is now recommending the NSS Certified Pen Testing Specialist (CPTS) cert over the CEH cert. I cite the following from the above link:
Mile2 is no-longer an EC-Council ATC and has chosen to distance itself from the organization for various reasons.
Anyone know what's the beef that Mile2 has with the EC-Council? Their explaination doesn't say much: http://www.mile2.com/EC_Council.html.

JD, I would guess this bullet on the home page may shed some light

"CPE credits:Mile2 classes can be submitted to (ISC)2 for CISSP and SSCP continuing professional education (CPE) credits."

This may indicate competition between competing certification organizations like the well known "no Intel advertising dollars if you get to close to AMD"

So you are saying that the (ISC)2 is opposed to the certifications programs sponsored by the EC-Council? The (ISC)2 offers no certs equivalent to the CEH, so they are not in direct competition. Why would the (ISC)2 require their own partners to not affiliate with the EC-Council's programs?

This bit of inter-certification-organization politics is news to me.

Not saying it is, just saying it is one possibility. You would have to know the future plans of all parties. There is no stiff wall between general information security, trapping hackers and pen testing. Once mile2 started writing their own documentation, all organizations have to start to be concerned about co-mingling information. If (ISC)2 says a hacking course qualifies as CEP's some may see that as a future problem. All it takes is some lightly worded, letters concerning what one should or shouldn't do to start the ball rolling. I have been down this road before with seemingly unrelated business plans. Heck the Google Microsoft feud over Dr. Lee didn't seem all that related to me.

This is such a big deal because Microsoft perceives Google as its primary competition (that is, threat) in most markets today. Google is an enterprise that can throw incredible amounts of money at the development of any type of product they wish. Sun, Oracle, IBM, and even Microsoft can't (or won't) do this. Google's base of available working capitol is the greatest threat to Microsoft maintaining market dominance.

Many bloody struggles to come between these two, I fear.

I am in definite agreement with you on this. Google now has enough ex-micro-serf's to form their own MS style attack vehicle. To me Dr. Lee was just a line in the sand for Microsoft i.e. we let you go this far but no further.
