Info Sources - Multicast?

redwarriorredwarrior Member Posts: 285
I'm about 3/4 of the way through my BCMSN studies and I'm trying to hit my weak points hard. I know the biggest of those right now is probably multicast...does anyone have any good resources they could point me towards? I feel like the more I read that section in the Study Guide, the more confused I get. CBT Nuggets didn't even mention it, nor does TrainSignal. icon_sad.gif

Thanks in advance!

Nevermind...I think I just answered my own question when I went back to look in the FAQ posted here to make sure I didn't miss any good links in the BCMSN section...just for the heck of it, I looked up at the BSCI section and saw that multicast is covered there...looks like I may just be getting ahead of myself and I don't need to worry too much about multicast until my next exam? (Yes, I am weird and am taking BSCI last...I'm just a rebel, I guess!)

Thanks anyhow...multicast does look interesting/perplexing and I do think I'll read up on the layer 2 parts now and then reread the rest when I get to BSCI. For now, I think I've got enough else to keep me busy! :)

Multicast gives a lot of people a hard time. Routers base their decision on destination IP addresses where as multicast is about the source and who downstream do I need to forward it to. Then you have Dense mode and sparse mode and a rendezvous point and whether it is static or auto. It is a difficult technology to understand. The BSCI lab portfolio has a good lab on multicast and it will make a lot more sense after doing it a couple of times. Good Luck on BCMSN
