How much PTO Time?

How much PTO (paid time off - vacation/sick/personal) do you get per year? I've received a job offer and it's a little lower than what I'm used to, but it may just be that I'm spoiled. Right now, I receive 24 days per year (after 5 years of service) at a medium sized distribution business with around 350 employees at this site. How much to you get and is it a small, medium, or large business?

shednik Member Posts: 2,005I get 13 days of PTO and sick days as many as needed I think I used a half of a day last year. I also have a lot of flexibility in when and where I'm working, anytime I need to work from home I can. Its very nice when you have a family to be able to work from wherever. I worked for a very large company so that's why I get that much flexibility. Smaller companies aren't usually like that in my experience.

I can also gain CTO in favor of overtime pay.
Any unused sick or vacation time carries over to the next year... Up to a certain amount. I currently have close to 450 hours of sick in my bank. I think I'm close to getting Sick buy back... Once you hit your max bank, the time after that gets bought back at the end of the fiscal year at half your pay... It's free money essentially.
In another couple years my vacation time will increase to 20 days. There is something to be said for government jobs. -

I was spoiled from my Army days too. Nothing will compare to all the time off you get in the military. All though sick days are frowned upon, nothing they can do if you have the Doc's orders! An expert is a man who has made all the mistakes which can be made. -

It makes me laugh to see to 16 sick days per year....
I have worked for the same company for 24 years, doing field service work and do not think I have taken 16 sick days in the 24 yearsI don't claim to be an expert, but I sure would like to become one someday.

I currently get 25 days holiday + 8 bank hols. In my previous job I had 28 days, raising to 33 days after 5 years (in the UK the minimum amount of hols is 20 days for a full time person - then pro-rata if P/T).
Sick days is different in the UK, anything above 8 days is flagged up. Every company is different.
As for personal days, at our company, we can have up to 2 weeks unpaid for special leave (eg deaths). There's paternity, we currently get 1 week full pay & 1 week statutory paternity pay (currently £80). For maternity up to 6 months (then the following 3 months is half pay).
We have 1350 users & just under 600 machines.
Pay's not great though

At the end of your service you can cash them in and get x amount of dollars per day. you can carry up to 100 or so sick days over year to year.
i have to carefully plan my sick days so that it looks like im actually sick. 1 here, 1 there, gotta watch mondays and fridays-they catch on to those. A tuesday wednesdy or thursday every couple months here and there stays under the radar.
i've only taken 1 (and i was legitimately sick!) so far but plan to take 3 to 4 per year.
