Totally scrambled screen when I boot up a 25xx router...

poguepogue Member Posts: 213
Here is an example of what I am getting when I boot up.. Any ideas? No ability to type anything, and no idea what happened to it.

I kinda need this router up quickly for frame relay practice, as I have decided to go for my ICND2 on Friday if possible.

Thanks,

Russ

What are you connection settings at? If they're at the defaults, try adjusting them a bit.

What dynamik said. It looks like you've got 7 bit mode on. The default are 9600 8N1 so try that.

It's the same settings I use with all my routers/switches..All I have to do is move the console cable to get it working with another device.

    I am stumped.

Have you used this router before or is this the first time you've turned it on?

    Used it before....

And once again, I have fixed my own problem....

    Hrmmmmmm.......

I changed the baud rate to 4800, and inexplicably, it works... Back to 9600, and scrambled.

I used this connection at 9600 before with this router, and no issues.

I have never in my life seen this happen with a router console port.

    Weird.

You can change the baud rate with the config register.

Thanks for the heads up on that...The config register setting was jacked..

    ????

like 0x863 or something like that. I set it back to 2102, and it is booting up now, readable at 9600 baud.

How would the config register have gotten changed?
