What does configuration register value of 0x2142 mean?
The book says about 2100, 2101, 2102.

2142 makes the router boot from flash without using NVRAM. It will start in setup-mode, so you can do certain stuff from there. This is what you wanna do if you need to recover your password.
Funny book you have there if it doesn't mention that. -

Read the documentation and use this decoder. You can find the answers with Google and it'd be much quicker than posting here and waiting for a reply...
