The best part of my workplace is our tech trainers are both women, but we all dish it out equally - it's great :D

There are absolutely no boundaries :)
I'm honestly really happy to hear you say that...as a female in IT, it's kinda sucky sometimes to feel left out of conversations or jokes because of my gonads.

The majority of our customers are in the adult entertainment industry, so I have one of the few jobs where I actually have to look at **** at work. I think that probably turns most women off. If we ever do get a woman in here, there would be absolutely no mercy just because of the gender. Only one thing counts in this room - do you know your stuff?

But I'm willing to bet the environment makes us a little more raunchy than your average bunch of computer geeks, and I would dearly hope that management would have the good sense to get a signed waiver. I've always believed that gender in the work place *shouldn't* be an issue. Unfortunately, the courts seem to disagree from time to time.

Well I am very glad to hear that I am the only computer guy that works in an environment where 1st Amendment rights are discouraged.

And those damn sexual harrassement videos.. I have to watch those all the time and then sign something saying I watched it where they teach me not to leave **** up on my computer or something. I don't know, I just take a nap.

To make it worse HR is on my floor with our group, so the HR lady is always giving me looks.. probably making sure I don't look at any girls lower than their chins. If I do that I might be tackled and tasered immediately.

I know it goes both ways.. girls feel alienated and the boys feel like their always spied on or something (evidently it's just you and me. Everyone else works around normal people).

I'm sure there are others though.

Where do you work, I need a new job. ;)

I think we have them listed as Micro$oft on one of our websites as work. Then again we have been known to post 9x9 WoW posters and pictures of random peoples faces in the hall around our office as well (students get creeped out by it sometimes...you know, some 4 foot tall face glaring at you when you walk around the corner).

Yea, I would imagine it would be awkward. We all joke around a LOT, and it's not uncommon for me to sit back down and swallow my pride after I have nothing left to shoot back with :D

I would have been gone for just about any other job I could get if it wasn't for the atmosphere I work in. It's going to really suck when I do find greener pastures and have to leave.

I am in total agreement with you. I don't get easily offended, but I still get left out of some of the jokes because they think I will be offended.

I have to keep reminding my coworkers that I worked in construction for 9 years, and I've heard just about everything...in multiple language to boot. And the worst stuff I heard? It was from my female coworker, who could make truckers and sailors blush! icon_lol.gif

I might start off a bit cautious around the ladies, but I definitely include them in the shenanigans once I've deemed them to be cool icon_cool.gif

When a woman is near me I just look down and hope she doesn't notice me... Once she is gone I take my handkerchief out of my pocket protector and wipe the sweat off my forehead and thank god I did not have to interact... and go back to making my lol-cat videos.

I once worked with someone that was super hardcore christian. This person was offended by the word "XMAS" because she felt it was "crossing out the name of Christ". She was serious.

Completely off topic but must be shared.

Back in my days as a teacher, we would play computer jokes on other teachers for fun. This one lady was devout Christian, so I set a macro in Word to insert "Jesus" whenever she typed her name.

She thought god was trying to tell her something. I didn't have the heart to shake her faith, so I didn't tell her and didn't fix it. icon_lol.gif
    Good luck to all!

I work in one of those politically correct environments today where we can't joke like that with anyone much less someone of the opposite gender.

My last job, however... NOTHING was off limits. It was like a stand-up comedy club every day. ***, culture, race, religion, political persuasions, anything went. Everyone dished it out and took it, and plenty of self-deprecating humor mixed in, and no one took themselves or anything someone else said too seriously. Best team personality I've ever dealt with, I really miss it.
