CCENT Exam Again Today at 2.

ULWizULWiz Member Posts: 722
Well i got my CCENT booked for today at 2 and using my comeback2009 code for this attempt.I am hoping to knock this one out today so i can finish my 291 for my MCSA.

Been studying as much as i can with kids and school and hope i can finally lay this one to rest. I must say its not easy studying with a kid running around and full time school. I went over my faults last time and buckled down on the topics i did bad on while reviewing the ones i did good on.

Wish a brother luck cause i am going to need it. Exam is scheduled at 2 but i am going to show up a little early in hopes on getting it done quicker.

I must say i hate the fact i cant review my questions on these exams since i have only taken CompTIA and Microsoft exams so far. Definately a change a pace in regards to that.

Well if the magic 8 ball says i am going to pass i might as well stop cramming this morning.
I should have nothing to worry about then since the 8 ball never lies.

That 8 Ball Lied. I want a refund from you.

    678 Was the score

Well the second attempt was taken and another fail. I feel like my simulations are killing me for some reason. Got stuck on two of them. Cant discuss to much detail about the exam.

Here is what it listed for me.
Describe the operations of data networks 28%
Implement a small switched Network 50%
Implement an IP addressing scheme and IP services to meet network requirements 44%
Implement a small routed Network 56%
Explain and select the appropiate administrative task required for a WLAN 100%
Identify threats to a network and describe general methods to mitigate those 100%
Implement and verify WAN links 50%

Not even sure if i can list this.

I was sure you would kill it. You will get it next time...

Are you going to try to retake it again asap or are you going to do something else first?

I...don't know what to say. Isn't this questions like "why would you use a switch instead of a hub"

28% is basically the equivalent of guessing. WTF?

edit:I asked the magic 8 ball if yu would get a refund. The answer: "not likely" Sorry :D

Haha Yeah 28% was not good and definately would not fail the question on the difference between a hub and a switch.

    I used the following.

    CBT Nuggets
    Trainsignal
    Exam Cram CCENT Book
    McGraw Hill CCENT Book
    Preplogic CCNA Guide.
    Various Subnetting Sites
    Measure Up
    Personal Lab.

I have a feeling my failing was due to a lack of doing labs.

Based on your score I would say you are not fully prepared. Study some more and my one and only recommendation is to change the source of studies. I've heard exam cram is not the best of all sources. I have been repeating that THE ONE and only source could be Sybex CCNA by Todd Lamle, but if you must get a secon d one, and specially because you apparently are going to take two exams to get the CCNA, my recommendation is the Official certification library by Wendell Odom.

    They are both excellent sources.

You need to practice subnetting more. You really need to be able to come up with the subnet, netmask, block size, etc., of certain given address without thinking about it. Maybe not for the CCENT but you do for the CCNA or ICND2.

If you are a member of the Cisco Academy you can do all the required practices with Packet tracer. If you are not, download Dynamips or GSN3, which is better because of the graphical interface...

    Good luck.

I would upgrade your text books, grab Lammle and/or Odom as these two books are usually considered the gold standard. If you send me a PM with your address, I don't mind sending you the books. If you don't want them let me know, and I will give them away on here. It gives me a good feeling to know someone will use books that would otherwise collect dust on my shelf. :)

I used the cisco press books by Odom. These with a real lab were all I needed to pass. I recommend them highly! I actually have both of mine on ebay right now. Have to get some cash to pay for they ccna:security book I just bought. I feel like certs are the same as pringles. Once you pop...you can't stop. Course that kinda reminds me of an old girrrrNevermind. Anyway good luck.

I definitely advise getting Cisco Press books, I used the Exam Certification Guide for CCENT and am using it again for my ICND2. It's the best source I've come accross, if you understand everything in the book and can lab up every configurable topic until you know them all thoroughly it would be hard to fail.

I did watch some videos like CBT Nuggets but I think they need to be used as a complimentary source to in depth texts such as the Cisco Press books. I'm not using videos for ICND 2, I prefer to just read a chapter over and over and keep labbing until it's cemented. Then repeat.

I hope you pass next time, it might be an idea to seek some advice on your weaker subjects, if there's some things you don't understand you're in the right place to get help.

If you can, get a copy of Packet Tracer and practice with it, or better yet, get some actual Cisco switches and routers. I didn't take the test until I felt like I had hit a wall with studying and that I wasn't learning anything new. I used the Boson tests that come with Odom's book to practice with. If you can get a passing score with those, the actual exam should be no problem. Don't give up! There is no feeling like passing these tests and knowing that you are Cisco Certified. Good luck!
