Upgrading SMI to EMI

Legal reasons aside, is there any reason someone couldn’t toss c3550-ipservicesk9-mz.122-44.SE3.bin on a 3550-SMI to bump it up to EMI?

The hardware is identical I think. So aside from legal reasons, it would be possible.

I see a lot of SMI w/EMI image switches on ebay - it just got me wondering if that's all I'm paying the extra money for hehe.

Yea, no point (other than legalities, lol) in paying extra for EMI if you already have the image.
