2600 and VLANs. Need help, almost done

Ok, I have a 2924 switch and a 2612 router. Trying to implement a VLAN here.

So far I've:
Made port 0/4 on the switch part of VLAN2.
Made port 24 on the switch the trunk link

I went to the 2600 router and did a

c2600(config)#int e0/0.1
c2600(config-subif)#encapsulation dot1q
Invalid Input detected ^

It seems the encapsulation command is not working. I am running 12.3(9) IOS on the 2612 router. I know that this router supports 802.1q encapsulation as stated here by Cisco http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps259/prod_bulletin09186a00800921e4.html
Help! I even downgrade my IOS to c2600-io3-mz.122-23 and still nothing?
Help
Thanks

I think you either need a fast ethernet to get this to work as I have a 2612 and couldnt get it to work but have a fe on my 3620 and it works fine.

with 12.2(2) T, cisco says it is possible. We will see.

I installed the 12.2(2) T IOS :D , but it said during bootup:

    >Not enough memory in the system for IO memory.
    >
    >IO memory available 3601795 required 4194304
    >

Does that mean I need more DRAM or more FLASH ?
    Thanks man

What features are you trying to use. Depending on the feature set like Enterprise you need 64MB of RAM. I have Enterprise Basic 12.2.15T9 and can do dot1q encapsulation on a 2610. I can't do ISL encap though; but that should not matter because all you need to do is trunk and dot1q will let you.

Also you cannot change the native VLAN otherwise you get ARP errors. It is a documented bug.
