I currently have a... should I pick up another...

I currently have a 3550 EMI/PWR, 2950-24-EI, and a 3512XL - would there be any reason at all to pick up another 2950? Is there anything that I wont be able to do with this setup that I could do with another 2950?

The reason I ask is the 2950 "I have" I'm really about to buy, and I was thinking about getting two of them until I broke out the 3512 - it was in my "junk" pile, and I'm not really sure how bad it really is.

I plan to go on to NP after I finish up NA - will I need that second 2950?

Couldn't hurt..and you can get 2950's for like $50 now anyways

if you can afford it I would get another 3550 for layer 3 etherchannel, hsrp, etc

If I try and bid, someone snipes me at the last second - I can't win auctions. I have seen 1 or 2 go for $50 but they mostly end up around the $100 mark.

I was going to "buy now" one for a little less then $155.00 each with a 1yr warrantee. I figure the piece of mind is worth the little extra money?!?

eh, I can put you in touch with someone that sells them on eBay for $50-60 shipped. For that price you can just buy 2 or 3 of them and be better off than 1 with a 1 year warranty, in my opinion anyways.

So then - with them being EI am I paying too much? I just want to make sure that I don't buy gear now that I can't use later... or if I do I pick up a little of it as possible.

I would say that price is as good as you're going to get! I mean, you might find some for $10-20 less..but as I've told a few people.. is it really worth the extra time and hassle to keep trying to find one a few bucks cheaper? Probably not!

jbrad check PM's. I have a couple 2950 EI's I'm willing to part with. I started with the BCMSN, but I can't afford any L3 switches at this point and I don't want to just read it, I'd rather lab it. I'm stepping back from BCMSN studies and working on BCSI with dynamips in the mean time.

Jbrad, if ur thinking about the 2950 only with a SI, then check this one out Cisco WS-C2950-24 w/2 Year Warranty 2950 24 Port 10/100 - eBay (item 110417085930 end time Aug-22-09 11:27:43 PDT), I personally got 2 of them, the Make An Offer option is also active.... However, I recommend getting a the 3550 SMI, it's price is down for now, and it's going to fit too well for higher certifications... Don't forget to get a 48 port one, I saw 24 and 48 almost same price, the wisdom goes if ever u need to sell it and get something higher, coz wat do u think will get a better price if u ever sold? The 24 or the 48 Port?

I ended up picking up 2x2950's (EI) and I have a 3550 EMI that I picked up a week ago. So, I think I'm ok for switches for now, but I plan to get another 3550 after I get the NA.
