Packet Tracer Question
new2net
Hey just a question on Packet Tracer
I have a switch with 2PCs connected.
I have hardcoded (under the specific interfaces):
speed 100
switchport mode access
duplex full
The second I hardcode the duplex (by "duplex full"), the links go down and never come back up. When I change it back to duplex auto, the links come back up.
I have tried doing a no shutdown on VLAN1 and the hardcoded interfaces. Still no luck. Changing back to "duplex auto" seems to fix the problem.
Anyone know why?
Thanks!

VLANs wouldn't matter in this situation. If I understand you correctly:
Static setting the switch Fa0/1 - 0/2 port to speed 100 duplex full
Not setting the PC's to anything?
Look at the PC settings. They default to half duplex when you turn off autonegotiation of link speed/duplex.

Remember that for auto-negotiation to work properly then both sides of the link need to be set to auto. If one end of the link such as your switch is hard coded to full and speed 100 and the other end is set to auto then the link wont work.
Check you PC settings. I just checked my PC and its default setting was auto negotiation.
