terminal server config

I have an 2691 router with a NM-32a ASYNC module installed i'm using this doc the help guild me.

Configuring a Terminal/Comm Server - Cisco Systems

from the show lines command it seems like the ASYNC lines are numbered 33 - 64. I'm a bit confused over the numbering of the lines in the ip host command, in the doc it has

ip host 3600-2 2013 172.21.1.1

3600-2 is the name of the line and 2013 is the line number. Should I be refering to my first line as 33 or 2033 or what?

Also in the doc config it shows the command 'transport input all' under 'line con 0' but my router only gives me options for

transport preferred
transport output

But it will let me specify 'transport input' under my lines 33 to 64.

i've tried trial and error with different configs but nothings worked yet, i'm attepting to make the connection using 'telnet (hostname)' and or 'telnet 1.1.1.1 2033' 1.1.1.1 being the loopback interface I set up on the router(terminal server)

My octal cable is on the Async 0-7 lines on my network module so I number the line 2001-2008. To access each host, you just type in the hostname ie:AccSrvr#2620xm

Assuming you have your octal cable on the same connection, Async 0-7, on your module you would number the lines 2033-2040. This would then correspond to cable #'s 1-8 on your octal cable, ie line 2033 = cable 1, etc.

Notice my line 1 16 config. This is where the transport input all would effect the protocol used on these lines. The line con 0, if you remember, is for the console connection.

Did you do a no exec on your terminal lines?

Did you do a show line after you tried connecting to see if it showed connected?

Have you tried the clear line command?

After you tried connecting, did you hit return to see if you'd get a login or router prompt?

Are you sure you're plugged into the first Async Connector and using the correct cable from the octopus cable? Are the cable numbers moulded into the connector and hard to read or do you have the easy to read numbers on labels wrapped around the cable? What are the numbers on the cables? 0 to 7 or 1 to 8? And the first cable is plugged into the console port of the router you're trying to connect to, right?

My cable is numbered 1 - 8 while the module is numbered 0 -7, is that weird

I've got it working ish now, I haven't changed anything the problem is that my two 2950T switches don't seem to want to play ball and these are the ones I was testing on when getting the problem, they don't even light up the line on the module when attaching the Octopus cable, but I can plug in a standard console cable from my PC and it works fine, any ideas? All my routers work fine and my two 3550 switches work to

oh and i'm using the same line and config to test all devices so it has to be something up with the two 2950Ts
