Half Duplex Ethernet

SB-KSB-K Member Posts: 13 ■□□□□□□□□□
Good Day,

I've been doing some reading and some sources say that csma/cd is what detects collision in a half duplex ethernet and others say its a loopback circuit. Which is it?

Thank You.

Not sure what you mean CSMA/CD senses electrical voltage level to see whether multiple devices are talking at once or not, nothing to do with a loop.

I think what you mean is CSMA/CD is only used in Half-Duplex communications, like 10 base ethernet and wireless. Full duplex communications do not use this technology because there all no collisions.

I am not sure what a loopback circuit is..Do you mean like a loopback tester or a loopback address (logical)?

    Half-Duplex uses CSMA/CD. Wireless uses CSMA/CA

True. My mistake. It has been along one.

There's a really confusing diagram in Odom's ICND1 book that I think this is in reference too.

    SB-K,

    It's both.
